Talk announcement – “Open Source Compliance made simple: what every dev should know” Jorge Teixeira Crespo

We’re happy to announce that Jorge Teixeira Crespo will be presenting at DORS/CLUC this year. Jorge is the current president of GPUL (Grupo de Programadores e Usuarios de Linux), one of the oldest and most active open source communities in Spain. Over the years, he has helped organize dozens of events—ranging from local meetups and student workshops to large-scale university conferences and industry hackathons. These experiences have shaped his strong dedication to community-driven development and to promoting the collaborative spirit at the heart of free and open source software.

Professionally, Jorge works in the Open Source Program Office (OSPO) of a large tech company, focusing on the responsible use, compliance, and publication of open source code. His work involves guiding engineering teams through licensing issues, implementing tooling for license scanning and attribution (such as SPDX, REUSE, and ClearlyDefined), and developing internal processes that make open source adoption and contribution safe, scalable, and efficient. He works closely with both legal and technical teams to ensure that software developed and released aligns with legal obligations and open source best practices.

With a strong technical background as a full stack developer and cloud engineer, Jorge has designed scalable infrastructure, built web applications end to end, and contributed to numerous open source projects. He thrives at the intersection of infrastructure, development, and policy—helping bridge the gap between engineers, lawyers, and open source communities.

In his talk Open Source Compliance made simple: what every dev should know, Jorge will demystify what it really means to use open source software legally and responsibly. The session will cover an overview of license types (such as MIT, GPL, AGPL), compliance best practices, and open source compliance tooling. Drawing from real-world experience in a corporate OSPO and as a community leader, Jorge will share practical strategies and workflows that help avoid legal risk while building with open source — ensuring that developers, regardless of their background, understand what they need to know when working with open source in modern development environments.
